CCHAT Students Submit Creations to Local Art Show
One of the many subjects covered in the daily curriculum for CCHAT students is art. And this month, CCHAT kids will get a chance to show off their creativity at a local art gallery.
The 5th Annual Rancho Cordova Student Art Show will be on display at the Mills Station Arts & Culture Center (MACC) from April 11-27. Students in CCHAT’s T-K/Kindergarten through 3rd grade classes have all created their own masterpieces to be featured.
Since 2019, the MACC has held this exhibit as a way to promote art in local schools. According to the MACC, students with an arts education are 30% more inclined to pursue a professional career, four times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement, three times more likely to receive a bachelor degree and five times less likely to drop out of school.
For CCHAT students, the event gives them a chance to dip into their creative sides while also sharing a little about their hearing loss with neighbors and local residents. It also provides them with a sense of pride in seeing the result of their hard work and vision.
“When our kids see their art on display, they begin to feel a sense of belonging within their community,” said Meredith Wright, CCHAT teacher. “It can also help them find interests and hobbies that they may want to continue to pursue in the future.”
CCHAT Kinder-1st graders drew and colored symmetry self-portraits, with many prominently featuring their hearing assistive technology. Children in CCHAT’s 2nd and 3rd grades focused solely on their listening devices, drawing colorful versions of their hearing aids and cochlear implants. Students in CCHAT’s T-K/Kinder class produced beautiful representations of their favorite shapes.
The MACC is located at 10191 Mills Station Road in Rancho Cordova. The gallery is open on Thursday and Friday from 2-7 PM and on Saturday from 11 AM to 4 PM. Admission is free. For more information, visit the MACC website.
